Should Liberals Change Their Name?

Right-wing columnist Norman Spector was all aglow on Twitter yesterday, responding to the news that the BC Liberals are contemplating a name change.

So I reminded him of a few name changes undergone by Stephen Harper's party. Reform, Alliance, Conservative Reform Alliance to Conservative Party of Canada.

I hate it when right-wingers gloat.

  1. As a third-generation British Columbian who lived in that province for more than 50 years, I can state unequivocally that the BC Liberals are not representative of the country as a whole.
That said, I definitely don't think the federal Liberal party should start messing with its name. Let's just get Justin Trudeau in as leader and begin again.
"Just vote Justin" sounds like a good rallying cry for a leadership convention, no?

  2. I agree. We need to tap into history not change it.
