An interesting column by Dan Gardiner in the Ottawa Citizen, suggesting something I have written of often. If we elect the Conservatives this time around, especially with a majority, we will be rewarding them for their Contempt of our democratic principles.“It would send a bad message about Parliamentary democracy if a government brought down for contempt, very serious contempt, on the finding of a Speaker, is rewarded with a majority. I think it would encourage Mr. Harper and maybe those after him to be contemptuous of Parliament. And then I think we’re in real trouble.”Cited also are Harper's many lies about the legitimacy of a coalition. A man who probably knows our Constitution inside and out, has deliberately twisted the facts for his own political gain.
It's time to send a clear message and vote him out.
Ignore the polls, that are only a reflection of the mood, and listen to the people. Social media paints a much different picture.
I agree Emily - they should not be rewarded for their bad behaviour.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered why some politicians behave badly and attack the rights of Canadians. For example, their contempt of Parliament, their open disdain for the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and their barely masked hatred of the Bill of Human Rights - to name just a few.
I mean, what are the psychological characteristics of politicians, and their cohorts, which allows them to shamelessly break rules (e.g. of Parliament) and then lie about it, while it is patently obvious to the majority of Canadians that they have broken the rules and are lying about it?
I am not a psychiatrist, but the only answer I can come up with is that they may be suffering from some kind of antisocial personality disorder:

In my opinion, to give these types of politicians - who may be suffering from a serious psychiatric disorder - the reins to our government would be a disaster for Canada.
It's a puzzle. I wish the media would focus more on this.
