Afghanistan "Mafia" Boss Killed by Bodyguard

Ahmad Wali Karzai, brother of the Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been assassinated.

A known drug trafficker and underworld boss, he was also the man given a $50 million contract to provide "protection" for SNC Lavalin as they fulfill another military contract.

Part of the quagmire that Stephen Harper has created.

Ahmad Wali played a key role in the war as the most powerful man in Kandahar, so his death will no doubt have a negative affect on the "mission".

Having a war monger as prime minister is bad enough, but having a war monger with no military experience, yet still trying to control every aspect of the war, is insanity.

This was why I was so skeptical when the NDP agreed to bombing the hell out of Libya for oil, in exchange for an increase in humanitarian aid. Karzai's brother was providing such aid.

Enough said.

Why Has Our Atomic Energy Been Sold to a War Profiteer?

SNC Lavelin is in the news a lot.

As one of the primo war profiteers, they are often the object of protests. They have been involved in scandal and yet have been granted contracts to help rebuild and provide private security in Afghanistan.

They have been tainting our water and further destroying our reputation abroad.

They built the notorious fence at the G-20 in Toronto, going way over budget.

And while much of the developed world has been critical of Libya's detention centres, SNC Lavelin is building them.

So why were they just gifted our atomic energy for a mere $15 million?

And they are going to apply their wonderful "business ethics" to turn Canada's nuclear energy into a profit making machine.

Forget that there are 800 jobs at risk. Good paying union jobs, that are the backbone of our economy.

And forget that this sale and new goal to make money, will no doubt increase our energy costs.

Isn't it all about making the wealthy wealthier?

I imagine SNC Lavelin is browsing the Harper Garage sale, as we speak, where everything not nailed down (and even stuff bolted to the floor) will be on the market. Cheap. Real cheap.

I mean Tony Clement sold them a highway when he was with the Mike Harris government.

Lock up your daughters and hide your sons, folks, or they'll slap a sticker on them.

Nothing is sacred in Harperland.

Will Canada be on the Wrong Side of the Crisis in Libya?

As most already know, Libya has turned into a powder keg, and while I agree that something has to be done to remove the dictator who refuses to leave, we have to be careful that it doesn't become another invasion.

Maybe with so many resources tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. will not lead the charge.

The latest plans appear to be for a "no fly zone", though it's proving to be rather complicated, with China and Russia rejecting the notion. The British Prime Minister wanted to arm the rebels, the absolute wrong thing to do.

But where does Canada fit into all of this? We have joined the international community in freezing the assets of Moammar Gadhafi, but John Baird is suggesting that it could be business as usual.

Strict financial sanctions against Libya won't stop Canadian companies from operating in the country, government House leader John Baird says. "This doesn't eliminate commercial activities. What it does do is restrain financial transactions with the Libyan government and with the Libyan Central Bank," Baird said Monday morning.

A little premature when we have no idea who will be governing the country.

I was watching some of the live feed today and they were showing the detention centres operated by Gadhafi, and I felt warm all over knowing that a Canadian company had the contract to build more. Is that the kind of business Baird is referring to?

Or is it just the oil?

First and foremost, the citizens must be rescued, but then they must be allowed to decide for themselves who will lead their country. We don't need another Karzai.

And it will be up to them, whether or not Canada will be allowed to conduct business, but don't hold your breath for those made in Canada prisons. Sorry SNC Lavelin.
